THE PAST IS A VERY UNCERTAIN PLACE:
My Dad died the middle of my Junior year, a heart attack. Anyhow, a week after the funeral, I came down stairs wearing one of Kathy’s dresses. I was all made up and long hair was ‘in’ so I was the very picture of the girl inside me. Mom screamed and went all crazy but I stood my ground. I’d wanted to do this- forever. To just be exactly who I was. Of course I didn’t know anything about ‘trans-women’ or that other stuff because that old guy’s memory hadn’t happened yet, but I did know that I wasn’t afraid of my Mom like I had been of my Dad.
