At eight years old, David Weston finds himself put in girl’s clothes by his mother Stephanie and taken to his Aunt Charlotte. Charlotte Middleton also has plans for him in skirts. Her daughter Abigail, a most unusual girl, becomes great friends with her cousin now called Hester and unknowingly aids her mother in her desire to have Hester made increasingly feminine. Elspeth McFarlane a governess hired for the two girls goes along with this conspiracy of Charlotte’s and Hester soon finds her male parts gone forever. Another girl, Marie Ramsay, is introduced to Hester and Abigail. The three girls become great friends. All go to university and Abigail and Marie start a most unusual relationship together . Hester finds a boyfriend in Bruce Barberton and they become engaged. Marie starts work in the Progressive Party offices and life becomes more and more interesting for all.
